Common Entrance Examination for Design - 2009 (CEED - 2009)


Date of Examination: Sunday, 18th January 2009 - (14:00 to 17:00 Hrs)


CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design.

(a) Master of Design Programmes

IISc Bangalore: M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering*

IIT Bombay: M.Des. in (i) Industrial Design, (ii) Visual Communication, (iii) Animation, (iv) Interaction Design

IIT Delhi: M.Des. in Industrial Design

IIT Guwahati: M.Des.

IIT Kanpur: M.Des. in Industrial Design*

* GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes.

(b) Ph.D Programmes in Design (in some of the above institutes)

Eligibility

Common for All:

Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2009:

(i) Bachelor`s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent

(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

(iii)B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience

(v) Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

Before applying for CEED, candidates must assure themselves that they are eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in.

There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.

Institute Wise Eligibility

A) For IISc. – Bangalore – M.Des:

Eligibility for applying to M.Des. programme is a degree in engineering /design / architecture. Selection for admission is based on performance in a design aptitude test (DAT) and interview to be conducted at the Centre towards the end of April /early May. Short-listing for DAT is done on the basis of applicants’ CEED or GATE score.

Candidates who are awaiting their CEED/GATE score can apply by quoting their CEED/GATE registration number. Institute will get their scores from the CEED/GATE office.

B) For IIT – Bombay

The candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks (50% in case of SC/
ST) or equivalent grades in the qualifying examination (as listed below). Candidates with 45% or higher marks with relevant experience of 2 years and exceptionally outstanding portfolio may also be considered.

Industrial Design:
i. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent

ii. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design:

i. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/Interior Design, or equivalent

ii. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

iii. B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

iv. G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience

v. Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

C) For IIT – Delhi

Applicants for the M.Des. Industrial Design Programme at IIT Delhi must have minimum CGPA of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or 60% marks in aggregate for General Category. For the reserved category, this is relaxed by 5%.

Candidates should confirm their eligibility and CEED score requirements from prospectus available at the IIT Delhi website. Full-time sponsored candidates are also advised to clear the CEED Test which is essentially an aptitude test. There is also reservation of seats for OBC Candidates. D) IIT – Guwahati – M.Des:

a. 4-year Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field.

OR

4 year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year program)

b. A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% marks in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying degree/diploma.

E) IIT – Kanpur

Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in engineering/ design/ architecture/ fine arts and a valid CEED/GATE score are eligible to apply for the Master of Design programme. CEED/GATE score is used for short listing the applicants. The short listed applicants will be called for a written test and interview to test their creativity and inclination for innovation. Admissions will be offered on the basis of this test and interview

Application Form and Brochure: CEED Application Form may be submitted either ONLINE (Internet based) or OFFLINE (by POST/ in Person).

i. OFFLINE Application Form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the GATE Office, IIT Bombay, on payment of nonrefundable application fee of Rs. 990/- (Rs. 495/- only for SC/ST/PD Applicants) by crossed Demand Draft in favour of IIT Bombay and payable at Mumbai. These can be collected personally at the GATE Office counter, or can be obtained by post by sending a request letter along with DD. Two address slips should be enclosed along with the request. Completed application should be submitted to GATE Office,IIT Bombay, either at the counter, or by Speed Post.

ii. ONLINE submission can be made by accessing the website: www.iitb.ac.in/gate . The ONLINE application fee (non refundable) is Rs 950/- (Rs 475/- for SC/ST/PD Applicants).

Note:

1. Applying for Admission to Various Programmes: Qualifying in CEED does not guarantee admission in any way. A candidate has to apply to respective Institutes for admission and fulfill other requirements such as tests and interviews of the respective institutions for admission.

2. A limited number of assistantships, based on merit, are available to CEED qualified students, to pursue the programmes.

3. Candidates are encouraged to visit the respective institutes and meet the students and faculty of the design programmes to discuss the eligibility requirements and programme details. Reservation of seats in each institutes will be asper the Govt. of India norms.

Objective: Assessment of aptitude for design, involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, and communication skills
