The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) will be conducted for students studying at class VIII level. The examination consists of two tests namely the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Each test consists of 90 multiple choice type questions. Each question has four alternatives marked 1,2,3 and 4. The candidate has to select one correct answer from the given alternatives and mark its number in the answersheet. Each correct answer carries one mark. Thus the total score of a candidate in a test is equal to the number of questions answered correctly by him/her.

Mental Ability Test (MAT)

This test is given to the candidates to judge their power of reasoning, ability to think, ability to judge, evaluate or discriminate, ability to visualize in the space, spatial
orientation, etc. A variety of questions e.g. analogies, classification, series, pattern perception, hidden figures, coding-decoding, block assembly, problem solving etc. are used for this purpose.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

These questions are basically multiple-choice questions where one alternative is correct. However, some questions are of different types like matching type, arrange the sequence, true and false statements and questions based on passages apart from simple multiple choice questions.

Eligibility

Common for All:

Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2009:

(i) Bachelor`s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent

(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

(iii)B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience

(v) Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

Before applying for CEED, candidates must assure themselves that they are eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in.

There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.

Institute Wise Eligibility

A) For IISc. – Bangalore – M.Des:

Eligibility for applying to M.Des. programme is a degree in engineering /design / architecture. Selection for admission is based on performance in a design aptitude test (DAT) and interview to be conducted at the Centre towards the end of April /early May. Short-listing for DAT is done on the basis of applicants’ CEED or GATE score.

Candidates who are awaiting their CEED/GATE score can apply by quoting their CEED/GATE registration number. Institute will get their scores from the CEED/GATE office.

B) For IIT – Bombay

The candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks (50% in case of SC/
ST) or equivalent grades in the qualifying examination (as listed below). Candidates with 45% or higher marks with relevant experience of 2 years and exceptionally outstanding portfolio may also be considered.

Industrial Design:
i. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design, or equivalent

ii. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design:

i. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/Interior Design, or equivalent

ii. Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent)

iii. B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)

iv. G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience

v. Master’s degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications

C) For IIT – Delhi

Applicants for the M.Des. Industrial Design Programme at IIT Delhi must have minimum CGPA of 6.75 on a 10 point scale or 60% marks in aggregate for General Category. For the reserved category, this is relaxed by 5%.

Candidates should confirm their eligibility and CEED score requirements from prospectus available at the IIT Delhi website. Full-time sponsored candidates are also advised to clear the CEED Test which is essentially an aptitude test. There is also reservation of seats for OBC Candidates. For cut-off criteria, please see IIT Delhi website or contact the Co-ordinator.

D) IIT – Guwahati – M.Des:

a. 4-year Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field.

OR

4 year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year program)

b. A minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grades (50% marks in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying degree/diploma.

E) IIT – Kanpur

Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in engineering/ design/ architecture/ fine arts and a valid CEED/GATE score are eligible to apply for the Master of Design programme. CEED/GATE score is used for short listing the applicants. The short listed applicants will be called for a written test and interview to test their creativity and inclination for innovation. Admissions will be offered on the basis of this test and interview

OFFLINE Application Form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the GATE Office, IIT Bombay, on payment of nonrefundable application fee of Rs. 990/- (Rs. 495/- only for SC/ST/PD Applicants) by crossed Demand Draft in favour of IIT Bombay and payable at Mumbai. These can be collected personally at the GATE Office counter, or can be obtained by post by sending a request letter along with DD. Two address slips should be enclosed along with the request. Examination: The candidates will be required to appear in a single examination of three hours duration without any break.

Most of the centres are located outside the main city and candidates may have to walk a good distance from the campus main gate to reach the examination venue.

Candidates should report to the examination centre, at least half an hour before the scheduled commencement of the examination. The seating arrangement will be displayed on the notice board of the examination centre.

A candidate has to bring his/her own pencils of different grades (e.g. H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B etc.), sketch pens, poster colors, and other drawing materials for the examination. No drawing sheets have to be brought.

The question paper will be in English. No specific text book or guide book preparations are necessary to appear in CEED. Candidates may however polish up their drawing and rendering skills.

Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED 2008)

Common Entrance Examination for Design ( CEED ) is a Qualifying Examination for Admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) Programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati and IIT Kanpur, and Ph.D. Programmes in Design in some Institutes, for the Academic Year 2008- 2009.

Programmes:
CEED is a qualifying examination for the following postgraduate programmes in design.
(a) Master of Design Programmes
IISc Bangalore: M.Des. in Product Design and Engineering*
IIT Bombay: M.Des. in (i) Industrial Design, (ii) Visual Communication, (iii) Animation, (iv) Interaction Design
IIT Delhi: M.Des. in Industrial Design
IIT Guwahati: M.Des.
IIT Kanpur: M.Des. in Industrial Design*

(*GATE qualified candidates will also be considered for admission to these programmes).

(b) Ph.D Programmes in Design (in some of the above institutes) Details may be obtained from respective web sites.

Admission Procedure:
Details of test and interview for admission to be notified separately by the respective institutes. (ii) A limited number of assistantships available for candidates with valid CEED/GATE score. (iii) Reservations as per Government of India rules applicable at the time of admission.

Eligibility for CEED 2008:
Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2008:
(i) Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Architecture/Design/Interior Design, or equivalent,
(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent),
(iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2),
(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience,
(v) Master's degree in Arts/Science/Computer Applications.

Application Form and Brochure: CEED Application Form may be submitted either ONLINE (Internet based) or OFFLINE (by POST/in person)
i) OFFLINE Application Form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the GATE Office, IIT Bombay, on payment of non-refundable application fee of Rs.990/- (Rs.495/- for SC/ST Applicants) by crossed demand draft in favour of IIT Bombay payable at Mumbai. These can be collected personally at the GATE Office counter, or can be obtained by post by sending a request letter along with DD. Two address slips should be enclosed along with the request. Completed application should be submitted to the same address, either at the counter, or by Speed Post.
ii) ONLINE submission can be made by accessing the link provided on this page. The ONLINE application fee (non-refundable) is Rs. 950/- (Rs. 475/- for SC/ST Applicants). Please refer to the "Application Procedure" link available on the web page.

CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT, Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India. CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des. programmes at the Industrial Design Centre (IIT Bombay), Instrument Design and Development Centre (IIT Delhi), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (IISc Bangalore) and Design Programme (IIT Kanpur). For IIT Kanpur GATE is also a qualifying examination. Candidates also have to fulfill other requirements such as tests & interviews of the respective institutions for admission.

Examination: The candidates will be required to appear in a single examination of three hours duration without any break.

Most of the centres are located outside the main city and candidates may have to walk a good distance from the campus main gate to reach the examination venue.

Candidates should report to the examination centre, at least half an hour before the scheduled commencement of the examination. The seating arrangement will be displayed on the notice board of the examination centre.

A candidate has to bring his/her own pencils of different grades (e.g. H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B etc.), sketch pens, poster colors, and other drawing materials for the examination. No drawing sheets have to be brought.

The question paper will be in English. No specific text book or guide book preparations are necessary to appear in CEED. Candidates may however polish up their drawing and rendering skills.

Eligibility:
Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following, by July 2008:

i) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Architecture/Design/Interior Design, or equivalent,
ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT, or equivalent),
iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2),
iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year professional experience,
v) Master’s degree in Arts/Science/Computer Applications.

Before applying for CEED, candidates must assure themselves that they are eligible to seek admission to the specific programme they are interested in.

There is no age limit and a candidate can take CEED any number of times.
